Jericho have now added a 6th social enterprise to their portfolio. Jericho Landscape has been started in partnership with Trident Housing to provide grounds maintenance, hard and soft landscaping and tree surgery to a range of customers from the public and third sectors. Initial contracts include City Council funded garden maintenance programmes in Aston and Lozells and a grounds maintenance contract for Trident Housing's Care and Support Division. We are also undertaking gating and fencing schemes and site clearance projects around Ladywood district.
Like all of our social enterprises Jericho Landscape will deliver high quality, cost effective services whilst also providing training and employment opportunities for local disadvantaged people. To find out more please contact our business manager Pete Smallwood on pete.smallwood@jericho.org.uk
Jericho Construction have recently completed the extensive refurbishment of a Victorian 6 bedroom house in Edgbaston, Birmingham which we have been developing in partnership with The Bridge, a local hostel for people recovering from substance miss-use issues. Constance Road provides low-level supported 'move-on' accommodation where residents have their own rooms and share a kitchen, lounge and bathrooms. The emphasis in Constance Road is on residents being independent and taking responsibility for their own lives and issues. They are supported in this by regular key-working and group support meetings, facilitated by the House Manager who will be there three days a week to help with any issues that may arise.
The house also incorporates a number of green measures including solar water heating, grey water recycling and high levels of insulation to reduce the negative impact of the building on the environment and to act as an example of good practice for residents and neighbours alike!
The former conservative leader and chair of Social Justice Iain Duncan Smith came to Jericho on 6th December 2007, during his Breakthrough Tour which was being held in Birmingham.
Mr Smith was greeted by Richard Beard Chief Executive of Jericho and Deputy Chief Executive Carlo Ropos where he was taken around Jericho and got to meet a number of staff members and beneficiaries who are currently on one of the programmes being run at Jericho.
The second graduation ceremony for Jericho's Rochdale office Rebuild Project was
held on 26th July 2007. The graduation was combined with an open day which
was very well attended by a broad range of local partners, statutory bodies,
councillors and of course the families and friends of our proud graduates.
Congratulations go to Dave Ratcliffe, Mario Cawley, Omar Rachedi, Danny Craven
and Tony Dunne who have all successfully completed a basic construction skills
course combined with a programme of personal development, work ethics and
specialist support. Instead of a cap and gown the graduates were all issued with
hard hats and waterproofs to help get them started in their new careers.
“Well done lads!"
